CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) \u2013 A popular thrift store chain is reopening under a new concept in our region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Goodwill on Charleston\u2019s Virginia Street reopened Thursday as West Virginia\u2019s second outlet, or bins, store. The store closed in December for renovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Goodwill Outlet, the inside of the store is filled with large bins rather than clothing racks and designated sections. Every 15 minutes, new items are brought out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe treasure hunt is all about finding what you want, and then buying in bulk,\u201d says Jamon Schmidt, Director of Marketing and Communications for Goodwill Industries of the Summit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly all the items on the floor are secondhand and serve as a final destination for unsold items, offering savings for shoppers. Schmidt says this allows more items a second chance at life, and also allows the store to focus on giving back to Goodwill initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt can be as simple as helping individuals with their resume. A lot of times, we hear that after the fact, one of the things people really needed was confidence to get back into the workforce. Either confidence or getting back into a sort of a schedule where they are waking up and they have a purpose,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Items at this location are priced at $1.99 per pound. Schmidt says donation procedures at the location will remain the same as well as the operations at their prosperity center, which offers job fairs and other career development opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
