ZMM is working with Nicholas County Schools on the design for the new Nicholas County High School, Nicholas County Career and Technical Center, and Summersville Middle School.

The comprehensive high school and middle school incorporates the career and technical education within the innovative curriculum.

The Nicholas County Academy model prepares students to be career- and college-ready while obtaining certification credentials/licensures, in addition to dual credit offerings, along their educational pathway. The academy model offers interdisciplinary, career-focused learning opportunities. Academy partnerships with post-secondary institutions, business, and industry add career skill development that students need to solve real-world challenges.

The building design is an innovative approach for this educational facility to achieve the ability for academies to be flexible and adaptable for evolving technology and changing demands in the workforce. Space demands vary from collaboration space, simulated workplace training, and occupational-specific equipment designed for the learning environment. One of the main project goals is to provide a modern facility that is flexible, inspiring, and innovative to house this one-of-a-kind learning experience in West Virginia. The new facility will accommodate 1,500 students from grades 6 through 12. The site construction will transform approximately 80 acres into the school campus, which will contain new athletic fields. Construction of the building will commence in 2023 and be completed in 2025.
