The existing adjacent schools had a very distinct material palette, most notably the vast quantity of curtain wall glass. As an alternative to copying the existing material, metal panels were used instead. This allowed the school to maintain a similar design language while being mindful of the current construction market.
The project makes use of Insulating Concrete Forms construction, providing a facility that is an exceptional learning environment as well as healthy and energy-efficient. The use of these materials pay homage to the existing buildings on the site, but allow the school to shape an aesthetic all its own.
The main entrance engages students from the start, promoting an environment of creativity and joy. The lobby includes terrazzo floors that are patterned with colors and shapes and feature a convenience stair with a slide, which serves as a new motivation approach for rewards. The school is full of colorful hallways, open spaces, and many inspirational areas. Whimsical ceilings inspire young minds and send imaginations soaring!
The art room, media room, and STEM spaces offer flexible and comfortable seating. The interior program also consists of classrooms, dining, athletics, special education, and accessory/support spaces. Flexible spaces were provided which accommodated a wide range of programs, including instruction, pull-out, conference, and administrative space.
