Frankfort Elementary School was envisioned as a cutting-edge PK-4 learning environment that inspires young minds through innovation, hands-on engagement, and thematic exploration.

The project focused on creating age-appropriate, dynamic learning spaces, starting with a nurturing single-story wing for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students with direct outdoor access, and extending to a vibrant two-story wing for first through fourth graders, anchored by a dynamic STEM Center.

Additional aims included fostering inclusivity and personalized learning through specialized areas for autistic and special needs students, integrating community identity through a collaborative mascot selection, and encouraging student-driven learning with interactive features like a student-run store using Rocket Cash.

The design approach balanced functionality with imaginative, real-world applications by incorporating safety, efficiency, and seamless connectivity throughout the campus. Constraints such as accommodating a diverse range of student needs and ensuring efficient circulation and site operations were met with a thoughtful mix of spatial organization and thematic elements.

The final design solution features innovative spaces that include dedicated arts, music, and gymnasium areas, as well as a cafeteria with a space-inspired design echoing a rocket launch and comic book aesthetics. Together, these elements create a holistic educational environment that not only meets today’s developmental needs but also inspires exploration and community pride.
