Director of Interior Design

Carly Chapman joined ZMM in 2009 as an intern and worked with the firm until 2012 before returning in 2016. She was promoted to the director of interior design in 2023.

Carly brings originality and creativity to every project, focusing on translating the client’s vision into meaningful, functional design solutions. Her portfolio spans a variety of industries, including education, municipal, residential, health care, hospitality, and corporate design. She has extensive experience managing projects from renovations to new construction across multiple sectors.

As a design leader, Carly specializes in concept development, client presentations, design documentation, specification writing, pre-design planning, architectural drafting, and the full range of interior design deliverables. She prioritizes innovation through collaboration and hands-on experience, ensuring every project reflects thoughtful design and intentional functionality.

Beyond her role at ZMM, Carly is actively involved in her community. She serves on the Clay Center’s Board of Directors, is the director of marketing and sponsorships for Mountaineer Little League, and serves as vice president of Ruthlawn Elementary PTO. She is an associate of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), a member of the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE), and participates in the Charleston Area Alliance’s “Up Next Charlie West” program, an initiative dedicated to inspiring youth community involvement.

Carly earned her Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from the University of Charleston and is currently pursuing her Accredited Learning Environment Planner (ALEP) designation. She lives in Charleston, WV, with her husband, Josh, and their children. Outside of work, she can often be found cheering at her children’s sports games, attending book clubs, or volunteering with her church.
