PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The Putnam County Board of Education met Monday evening, discussing topics including a construction update.

Plans are underway for a new Hurricane Middle School, and the architect and engineering company in charge provided the board a list of plans. ZMM revealed that the traffic impact study is complete and now awaits approval from the West Virginia Division of Highways.

Other updates noted an overall timeline of events, as well as a comment stating that floor plans are still in the works after staff review suggested minor adjustments and additions. A finalized plan is not yet complete.

Putnam County Schools Deputy Superintendent Bruce McGrew said that it is a complex process, but that ZMM is moving swiftly.

“There’s so many components that have to be checked off,” McGrew said. “The wetlands survey, the drainage surveys, all of that has to be done, and we have progressed further in the design phase.”

McGrew also said up to three construction companies can bid on the project once the floor plan is finalized and approved.
