The Shawnee Sports Complex and Welcome and Tourism Center in Dunbar, West Virginia, serves as a premier regional destination for youth sports, recreation, and community events.

Spanning more than 100 acres, the complex features six artificial-turf collegiate soccer and lacrosse fields, four collegiate-size artificial-turf baseball fields, and expansive grass field areas that accommodate a wide range of age groups and sporting events. The baseball fields are arranged in a clover layout with a parking area with more than 600 spaces dedicated to the facility.

To meet the growing needs of visitors and enhance their overall experience, the Kanawha County Commission expanded the existing facilities with a larger Tourism and Welcome Center for the Shawnee Sports Complex. This much-needed addition, which opened in 2025, provides a welcoming space for the ever-increasing number of athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators who visit the complex each year. The facility includes a welcome area, commercial kitchen, restrooms, concessions, tournament spaces, offices, and safety and utility upgrades, along with improved security features.

Since opening in 2018, the Shawnee Sports Complex has exceeded expectations as both a community recreation hub and a regional sports destination, hosting more than 500,000 visitors and generating more than $100 million in economic impact for the Kanawha Valley. The Tourism and Welcome Center enhances Shawnee’s ability to support local residents, schools, and major tournaments. This will assist in its continued role as a cornerstone of sports, tourism, and community engagement in the region.
