WV Health Right's East End Clinic expansion triples their exam room space, dedicates service areas for specialized patient care, and enhances culinary education programs led by a James Beard Award-winning chef, all while preparing for future growth so that WV Health Right can continue their mission of providing healthcare with heart.

WV Health Right provides quality, comprehensive care to those un- or underinsured in our community. Prior to this renovation, they were bursting at the seams and desperately needed to expand clinical/service space and parking at their East End Clinic to address the needs of their patients and the community.

They had outgrown their general medical exam areas. Previously, all patient areas were scrambled in the same section of the building, which was not efficient or an ideal patient experience.

Additional properties were purchased to accommodate this expansion. Some aspects of the project required municipal planning commission approvals and other regulations. As experts in navigating these processes, we helped WV Health Right every step of the way.

The renovation and expansion of the space improved the patient and client experience through specialized, designated areas for medical, dental, vision, and mental health services. Spaces were created with the specific services and the needs of patients at the heart of the design. These efficiencies and expansion led to tripling the examination room areas as well as the lab and phlebotomy spaces. The pharmacy doubled in size. They needed more lobby space to best serve their patients. They now have a calming lobby for behavioral health services, separate from the busy medical lobby. Administrative offices were relocated to one area so that the clinic space could expand and further improve efficiency and flow.

To support WV Health Right’s ongoing growth, a 5,000 SF shell space was created in the addition. This space is ready to be utilized by WV Health Right whenever needed so that they can continue to meet the needs of their patients and the community for years to come.

WV Health Right provides nutritional programming, including cooking classes for the community. With the expanded teaching kitchens, WV Health Right was able to enhance their offerings and now hosts an accelerated culinary education program led by West Virginia’s first James Beard Award winner, Chef Paul Smith. This 90-day program provides participants with hands-on job training at no cost and prepares them for culinary careers.
