Goodwill opens new bin store outlet in Charleston
We are proud of our longstanding relationship with Goodwill Industries of the Summit providing design support for projects such as the Virginia Street retail location conversion to an outlet store as well as many other retail locations throughout the region. We are honored to also contribute to Goodwill’s mission of preparing job seekers for in-demand careers. The following was coverage from WOWK TV 13 related to the opening of the outlet store on Virginia Street.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) – A popular thrift store chain is reopening under a new concept in our region.
The Goodwill on Charleston’s Virginia Street reopened Thursday as West Virginia’s second outlet, or bins, store. The store closed in December for renovations.
As a Goodwill Outlet, the inside of the store is filled with large bins rather than clothing racks and designated sections. Every 15 minutes, new items are brought out.
“The treasure hunt is all about finding what you want, and then buying in bulk,” says Jamon Schmidt, Director of Marketing and Communications for Goodwill Industries of the Summit.
Nearly all the items on the floor are secondhand and serve as a final destination for unsold items, offering savings for shoppers. Schmidt says this allows more items a second chance at life, and also allows the store to focus on giving back to Goodwill initiatives.
“It can be as simple as helping individuals with their resume. A lot of times, we hear that after the fact, one of the things people really needed was confidence to get back into the workforce. Either confidence or getting back into a sort of a schedule where they are waking up and they have a purpose,” he says.
Items at this location are priced at $1.99 per pound. Schmidt says donation procedures at the location will remain the same as well as the operations at their prosperity center, which offers job fairs and other career development opportunities.
The store is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit goodwillsummit.com.
