KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — More major improvements are on the way for West Virginia International Yeager Airport.

Plans for an $8 million renovation of the pre-security areas of the airport were announced by the Central West Virginia Regional Airport Authority on Wednesday, according to a news release from the airport.

Renovations will include the ticket lobby, the ramp area near the secure area exit, baggage claim and all public circulation spaces in between. Planned upgrades feature replacement of ticket counters, installation of digital display signage, new flooring, refreshed finishes and updated lighting throughout the main lobby.

“This project is a key milestone in our long-term terminal modernization efforts,” Dominique Ranieri, CEO & airport director, said in the news release. “It reflects our commitment to improving the passenger experience, supporting future growth, and making CRW a more welcoming and efficient gateway for travelers.”

The current anticipated construction duration is 180 working days, with a projected start date in early October.

Funding for the project is made possible through a Federal Aviation Administration grant program.

The pre-security renovation projects adds to the $12 million in active improvements currently underway at the airport, the news release said.

Ongoing projects include lobby restroom upgrades, installation of a second baggage belt, expansion of our general aviation apron, and site preparation for a future maintenance facility relocation.
